Port Alberni, BC – On the morning of Monday, November 18, 2024, City Parks staff were alerted to several trees in Gyro Recreation Park (3245 7th Avenue) that sustained significant damage as a result of vandalism. A total of five (5) trees were damaged.
Port Alberni, BC – As part of the upcoming commercial building demolition process the City of Port Alberni, through its contractor, Warbrick Contracting Inc., will be systematically removing contaminated/hazardous materials from 5170 Argyle Street. This work will commence in mid-November 2024 and will follow all Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and be carried out by certified and qualified asbestos abatement workers.
Beginning November 1, 2024, all laneway access points off of Argyle Street from Harbour Road east (uphill) to 6th Avenue will become one-way, leading traffic to exit away from Argyle Street. As a result, vehicles (other than waste collection) will only be permitted to travel:

Port Alberni, BC – The first round of engagement for Port Alberni’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Master Plan is coming to a close on Friday, October 25. Everyone is encouraged to participate before then so their ideas are included in drafting the City’s first Parks, Recreation & Culture (PRC) Master Plan. When complete, the plan will guide decision-making and investment in PRC services in Port Alberni over the next seven years and beyond.

Port Alberni, BC – The City, in conjunction with Tseshaht First Nation, has renamed Canal Waterfront Park to John Douglas Park at t̓iipis to honour the passing of the late John Douglas, Councillor and Former Mayor, and to also recognize the park as traditional Tseshaht territory. t̓iipis means ‘thrown up beach’ or ‘Polly’s Point’.

Port Alberni, BC – The City is deeply saddened by the passing of John Douglas, City Councillor and former mayor, as announced earlier today. Anyone who wishes to pay their respects can visit City Hall starting Monday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, where a book of condolences will be available for signing. Council Chambers will be open to the public for those who would like to stop in, gather and honour his passing.
