Residents of Port Alberni can now access up to $2,200 in rebates for making the switch from oil heating to an air source heat pump.

The City of Port Alberni is leveraging a provincial program funded by the B.C. Ministry of Energy and Mines’ Innovative Clean Energy Fund to help residents reduce their heating bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

The Province of BC has been providing up to a $1700 rebate through the Oil to Heat Pump Incentive Program, and a new top-up incentive from the City of Port Alberni is now providing an extra $500 to residents for making the switch.

The City of Port Alberni is hosting an open house on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 to inform residents about improvements to wastewater treatment, a project that is important to every household and business in the community.

For the 23rd consecutive year, the City of Port Alberni’s Finance Department has been recognized with the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). 

Mayor Mike Ruttan announced the honour at the February 27th City Council meeting, recognizing the City’s financial staff for their excellence in government accounting and financial reporting.

At the February 14, 2017 regular meeting, Mayor Ruttan announced that City Planner Scott Smith had been promoted to the newly developed position of Director of Development Services, effective February 1, 2017.

Due to the heavy snow, garbage and recycling service will be delayed by one day. If today (Thursday) is your normal garbage and recycling day, it will now be picked up tomorrow, February 10th. 


As Monday, February 13, 2017 is Family Day, next week's pickup will also be pushed forward by one day. For example, if your collection day is normally Monday, it moves to Tuesday, Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday, Wednesday collected on Thursday, and Thursday collected on Friday. The City of Port Alberni invites residents to participate in an eTown Hall Budget Meeting on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 6:30pm in Council Chambers.

While the event takes place in Council Chambers at City Hall (4850 Argyle Street), a new format means that comments and questions will be received from those in attendance at the meeting, as well as those viewing from the comfort of their home.

The City of Port Alberni is pleased to welcome Kamruz Zaman as the new City Engineer. 

Together with communities across the country, the City of Port Alberni is mourning the victims of the Quebec City mosque shooting.    The flags at City Hall have been lowered to half- mast in a gesture of solemn respect.

Mayor Mike Ruttan will be joining local faith leaders and other members of the community at a vigil planned for 5:30pm tonight in front of Port Alberni City Hall to demonstrate compassion and support for the families of those killed in Quebec City. The public is welcome to attend.  

 

The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced an upgrade to the Highway 4 crosswalk at Helen Street to a fully signalized intersection.

The project, estimated at $225,000, will begin in late January and is expected to finish by the end of March 2017.
