PORT ALBERNI, British Columbia, Canada – The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Rob Kraneveldt as Facility Operations Supervisor replacing Mr. Mark Zenko who is moving on to new opportunities.

To address aging infrastructure, accommodate future growth and improve drainage in your area, crews from the City of Port Alberni are replacing a sewer main on North Park Drive between and 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue. Installation activities on North Park Drive are nearing completion and crews are moving on to the 10th Avenue crossing.

The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Flynn Scott as Manager of Bylaw Services.

In 2017 the City committed to making its Bylaw Services Department more robust to help improve livability in Port Alberni and increase safety in the community. This commitment included the creation of three new positions in Bylaw Services: a full-time manager, one additional Bylaw Officer, and one part-time Administrative Clerk.

Canadian Maritime Engineering (CME), carrying on business locally as Canadian Alberni Engineering, is fulfilling their commitment to the City of Port Alberni by improving the former Plywood Mill site (2120 Plywood Drive). This initial investment of just over $2 million involves the construction of a 33 metre by 45 metre marine fabrication centre which will stand approximately 13.5 metres high.

To accommodate future growth and improve drainage in your area, crews from the City of Port Alberni’s Public Works Department will be replacing a new sewer main on North Park Drive between and 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue.

The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Rosalyn Macauley as the new Deputy Director of Finance.

Ms. Macauley comes to the City with over eight years’ experience working in the fields of finance and administration. Most recently, Ms. Macauley worked on the Asset Management implementation program for the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD). Before working with the ACRD, Ms. Macauley was the Senior Accountant with Catalyst Paper in the Port Alberni Division. 

The City of Port Alberni and the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District are working with the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) School of Community and Regional Planning to gain a better understanding of people’s experiences during the recent tsunami warning.

Starting Wednesday, April 4, 2018, two UBC researchers will be knocking on doors in Port Alberni’s inundation zone to gather data on what worked well and what difficulties were experienced during the evacuation. The information gathered will:

To further reconciliation efforts and foster cross-cultural awareness in the City of Port Alberni, the Reconciliation Committee, a partnership between Hupacasath First Nation, Tseshaht First Nation, and the City of Port Alberni, is hosting their first ever Community Forum.

The City of Port Alberni and the McLean Mill Society (MMS) are proud to announce that the No. 7 Baldwin Steam Locomotive and the RS3 Alco Locomotive will be operational come April 2018.

To accommodate future growth in your area construction crews will be installing a short section of sewer main on the south side of Burde Street, just east of Swordfern Lane. This work is in preparation for Phase 2 construction of the Uplands development and is led by McGill and Associates Engineering.
