News Release - Victoria Quay Bridge Completed On Time, Within Budget
The City of Port Alberni’s $100,000 Victoria Quay Bridge Rehabilitation Project has been completed – on time and within budget.
The Victoria Quay Bridge will reopen to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians tonight, Monday, September 19. The bridge has been closed to traffic since September 6th to allow contractors to undertake necessary repairs to the bridge.
The two-week project included repairs to the bridge supporting structure, sealing cracks in the bridge deck and removal of wood debris from Roger Creek.
"We are very pleased with the efforts of our staff and contractors for completing this project quickly and efficiently,” said Tim Pley, Chief Administrative Officer. “We also really appreciate the patience that the community showed throughout the project."
While this initial repair is now complete, additional work will be required in future years as the bridge nears the end of its useful service life. This work will be planned in accordance with the City’s overall asset management approach that targets maintenance, renewal, and replacement of infrastructure based on condition, service levels, and risk.
