Community Forest Presents City with $100,000

At the September 12th Council meeting, the Alberni Valley Community Forest presented the 2015 dividend cheque in the amount of $100,000 to the City of Port Alberni.

The Alberni Valley Community Forest (AVCF) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the City of Port Alberni, incorporated in 2009 as a forest company whose profits are returned to the community through dividends.

In 2015, $350,000 in funding from the AVCF was distributed to local community projects benefiting the entire Alberni Valley. These projects included: an office expansion to the Alberni Valley Multiplex, an exterior renovation to Kiwanis Hilton Centre, a trail signage project along the Alberni Inlet Trail, building improvements for the Alberni Aquarium and Stewardship Centre, a Little Libraries project led by Literacy Alberni, and support for the runway extension at the Alberni Valley Regional Airport.

City Council congratulated the AVCF on their continued success and thanked the members of the Board for their commitment to being responsible stewards of the forest while balancing environmental, economic and social aspirations.
