Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween Safety Tips

Make this Halloween memorable for the right reasons. Keep safety in mind with these tips:

  • Motorists, please drive carefully and keep an eye out for children, adults and goblins.
  • If your child is wearing a mask, make sure that the eye openings are big so they can see, and when walking, push the mask up on their head.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick with you.
  • Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags.
  • Costumes should be short enough to avoid trips and falls.
  • Dress for the weather. Consider bringing an umbrella and add layers underneath costumes if it’s cold.
  • Don’t trick-or-treat alone; have an adult supervise at all times.
  • Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.
  • Stay on the sidewalk when walking from house to house, and if there is no sidewalk, walk beside the road, facing traffic so drivers can see you.
  • Only go to houses with a light on.
  • Use battery-powered lights or tea-light candles instead of a regular candle.
  • If you use a regular candle, make sure it is on a steady surface and away from anything that can burn – such as curtains, costumes or other decorations. Never leave a lit candle unattended.
