City Bans All Outdoor Burning Effective Noon Pacific Daylight Time - Friday, July 12

Port Alberni, BC – The BC Wildfire Service has recently announced it will put in place a ban on all campfires in the Coastal Fire Centre effective at noon Pacific Daylight Time Friday, July 12, 2024.

The Coastal Fire Centre is implementing this prohibition due to increasing temperatures and no precipitation in the forecast.

To coincide with this regional fire ban, the Port Alberni Fire Department has issued a fire ban for the City of Port Alberni, effective at noon Pacific Daylight Time, Friday, July 12, 2024.

The ban applies to all public and private land. No outdoor burning of any variety is permitted. Outdoor regulated cooking devices such as outdoor grills, BBQs or cooktops that use liquid fuel or briquettes are permitted.

They must have the CSA or ULC symbol and must not have a flame height of over 15 centimetres. People found to be in violation of the fire ban may be subject to fines and other legal action.

This suspension will be in place until Thursday, October 31, 2024 or until this suspension is rescinded. All fire permits issued prior to July 9, 2024 will be considered null and void.
