City Hires Scott Smith in New Role as Director of Development Services/Deputy CAO

Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the hiring of Scott Smith as the new Director of Development Services/Deputy CAO.

Mr. Smith comes to the City with extensive skills and the necessary experience to successfully fill this newly created position.  In this role, Mr. Smith oversee the operations of the planning and building services departments and will act for the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in his absence. Importantly, Mr. Smith will be directly responsible for the inventory, development and sale of City-owned properties.

City Council has numerous  strategic goals that involve the development and sale of City-owned lands or the purchasing and securing of access to lands deemed strategic in achieving the City’s short and long term goals. Combined with the current unprecedented interest from developers, the City finds itself in a phase of redevelopment that can only be fully advantaged with the right staff resources in place.  

Mr. Smith most recently has worked as the General Manager of Planning and Development for the Comox Valley Regional District where he oversees a development services department of twenty one employees. Prior to assuming his current role Mr. Smith had worked for the City of Port Alberni from 2000 until 2018.

As the City’s Director of Development Services/Deputy CAO Scott will play an integral role in implementing Council’s strategic vision.”

Mr. Smith will assume his new role on February 8, 2021.
