News Release - Port Alberni Hires New City Engineer

The City of Port Alberni is pleased to welcome Kamruz Zaman as the new City Engineer.

Kamruz has been the Director of Engineering, Planning and Development at the Town of Kindersley, Saskatchewan for over 6 years, prior to which he was with the Town of Chestermere, Alberta. Kamruz also previously served as the Manager of Engineering and Municipal Engineer with the Local Government and Rural Development Division of the Government of Bangladesh.  Kamruz has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology and a Masters of Engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.

“With over 13 years of professional engineering experience, we look forward to having Kamruz join our organization,” said Tim Pley, Chief Administrative Officer. “With a strong focus on asset management, it’s critical that we have someone of Kamruz’s technical skills and experience to manage the City’s infrastructure maintenance and renewal going forward.”

The City Engineer leads the Engineering Department which is responsible for design and oversight of capital projects and long-term infrastructure renewal within the community.

This announcement follows an extensive external competition that was initiated after the retirement of the previous City Engineer.  Kamruz is excited about his move to Port Alberni from Kindersley and will assume his new duties on March 13, 2017.
