Christmas Garbage Pick-up Schedule

Due to statutory holidays during the Christmas season there will be no residential pickup service on Monday, December 26, 2016 and Monday, January 2, 2017.  View the full holiday garbage collection schedule to ensure you don't miss your collection date.

The City encourages residents to help reduce holiday waste by using recyclable or reusable wrap, like re-usable fabric or paper gift bags; brown paper wrapping or newspaper; gift boxes; or wrap a toy inside a new pair of socks or other clothing item.  Check out Multi-Material BC's Holiday Recycling Guide to learn what holiday items can be recycled with your packaging and printed paper.

Residents are also encouraged to properly dispose of Christmas trees.  Christmas trees can be dropped off at:

• Alberni Valley Landfill – 7080 McCoy Lake Road.  Christmas trees less than 2 inches in diameter can be dropped off free of charge for composting, with larger sizes being typically charged approximately $2.   Please call 250-723-1059 for hours of operation.
• Alberni Valley Multiplex - 3737 Roger St. January 7 & 8, 2017 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Christmas trees can be dropped off by donation with proceeds going to the Port Alberni KidsSport Chapter.

Please make sure no tinsel or decorations remain on the tree.
