City of Port Alberni Appoints New Chief Administrative Officer
City Council is pleased to announce that the City of Port Alberni has appointed a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Timothy Pley.
Mr. Pley has been serving the City as Acting City Manager since January of 2016 and will succeed former City Manager Ken Watson. The CAO is the sole position in the City that is recruited by and is accountable directly to City Council.
The selection of Mr. Pley comes following a thorough recruitment process supported by Davies Park Executive Search. There were over 50 applicants for the position, with interest having been received from across Canada and from the United States. The selection process followed was fair, based on merit and included a comprehensive assessment of the skills, experience, knowledge and qualifications of candidates.
“Council was very impressed with the high caliber of candidates,” said Mayor Mike Ruttan. “We’re confident that Mr. Pley is the right choice for this critical position and brings with him considerable experience, passion and a familiarity with the Alberni Valley.”
Mr. Pley has extensive knowledge of the corporation and has served the City for the past 26 years, 8 as deputy fire chief and 8 as fire chief. He has a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the University of British Columbia, a Public Sector Management diploma from the University of Victoria and an Associate Certificate in Leadership and Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
“I am pleased to accept this position and look forward to leading the dedicated and hard-working staff at the City of Port Alberni,” said Tim Pley. “These are exciting times for our community and I look forward to working with City Council, employees and all residents to make Port Alberni an ever better place for all of us to live and do business.”
“Tim is well-respected throughout the community and has delivered exceptional results on key projects and files throughout his time with the City,” said Mayor Ruttan. “Tim’s leadership capabilities will serve our community very well as we move forward with a number of exciting projects under way and on the horizon.”
The appointment of Tim Pley to the position of Chief Administrative Officer will take effect Monday, July 18, 2016.
