City Appoints Interim Chief Administrative Officer

Port Alberni, BC – December 10, 2025 - The City is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew McGifford as Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for a one-year term, effective February 2, 2026.

As the City prepares for an election year, Council believes it is essential for the newly elected officials to have the opportunity to select their own permanent CAO. Appointing an interim CAO ensures continuity and stability in City operations during this transition period.

Andrew McGifford, who previously served as the Director of Finance for the City of Port Alberni, is a highly qualified and experienced member of our team, having demonstrated strong leadership and unwavering commitment to the city. His appointment reflects Council’s confidence in his ability to guide the organization forward over the next year.

“Council is confident that Andrew’s experience and dedication will provide the leadership our city needs during this important transitional phase,” said Mayor Sharie Minions. “His collaborative approach, alongside Deputy CAO Scott Smith, ensures that our strategic priorities will continue to be addressed effectively.”

This decision allows the city to maintain momentum on its priorities, with a permanent CAO search planned for next year.
