Fireworks Bylaw Regulations

Fireworks Event Permits:
A permit is required to discharge fireworks inside the City of Port Alberni. Application for a permit shall be made by the person setting off the fireworks using Schedules attached to the Bylaw which will include the following:
- Your application must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the date upon which the fireworks event is to occur.
- Applicants shall hold a current and valid Fireworks Supervisor and/or Pyrotechnics Certification card as issued by Natural Resources Canada.
- The applicant shall provide proof of insurance meeting the requirements of this bylaw.
- The application shall include “save harmless” agreements from the owner of the property, from any Sponsoring Organization of the Fireworks Event and from the applicant. Written permission from the City is required to use fireworks on City owned property.
- Fireworks Events may not start prior to 8:00 a.m. and shall end prior to 11:00 p.m. on any day, except as authorized by the Fire Chief. Fireworks Events may be inspected by the Port Alberni Fire Department to ensure all safety aspects have been adhered to as set out in the Act and in general accordance with permit.
- A Fireworks Events permit issued under this bylaw is not transferable.
Peace Officers are designated to enforce this bylaw by means of the issuance of a ticket. Any person guilty of an infraction of this bylaw is liable on summary conviction, to a fine of not less than $100.00 and not more than $10,000.00 or imprisonment not exceeding the maximum allowed by the Offence Act.
