Port Alberni, BC – The City, in conjunction with Tseshaht First Nation, has renamed Canal Waterfront Park to John Douglas Park at t̓iipis to honour the passing of the late John Douglas, Councillor and Former Mayor, and to also recognize the park as traditional Tseshaht territory. t̓iipis means ‘thrown up beach’ or ‘Polly’s Point’.
Port Alberni, BC – With hotter, dryer weather in the forecast the City will move into Stage 1 water restrictions effective July 24, 2024.
Starting Wednesday, July 24th residents should adhere to the following watering schedule:

Anyone who wishes to pay their respects can visit City Hall starting Monday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, where a book of condolences will be available for signing. Council Chambers will be open to the public for those who would like to stop in, gather and honour his passing.

Port Alberni, BC – The BC Wildfire Service has recently announced it will put in place a ban on all campfires in the Coastal Fire Centre effective at noon Pacific Daylight Time Friday, July 12, 2024.
The Coastal Fire Centre is implementing this prohibition due to increasing temperatures and no precipitation in the forecast.
Port Alberni, BC –Trail maintenance is underway in the City’s parks and major trail networks. Trail users are advised to watch for crews and observe all applicable signage and keep dogs on a leash where required.
Work includes brushing, mowing, cutting back brambles and overgrown bushes, removing natural hazards and increasing overall trail safety in all major trail networks throughout the City.
Port Alberni, BC – Due to a significant increase in demand for City services and resources the City will be permanently moving two departments – Development Services and Engineering - across the street to the second floor of the Salvation Army building (formerly known as the federal building and main post office), located at 4835 Argyle Street.
Port Alberni, BC – The City was recently made aware of a complaint involving temporary foreign workers (TFWs) recruited to work in Port Alberni.
The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) and the City of Port Alberni (CPA) worked together to create Accessibility Plans for each organization. This week, the ACRD Board of Directors and CPA Council adopted their respective Accessibility Plan, allowing both organizations to begin to implement its recommendations.
