Exercise Coastal Response - Port Alberni
Exercise Coastal Response - Port Alberni
Happening June 7-10, Exercise Coastal Response is a four day, full scale functional exercise in the Alberni Valley. It will be based on a magnitude 9.0 earthquake resulting from a rupture of the Cascadia Subduction Zone off the coast of southwestern B.C. A tsunami is generated on the west coast of Vancouver Island minutes after the initial shock. This exercise will be a mix of real-time activities and simulated situations involving certain functions, such as emergency operations, logistics, medical care, mass care, public information and operational communications. Please note that it will be business as usual throughout the community during the exercise with no disruption to services.
The public is invited to attend an open house for the exercise on Friday, June 10th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at the Fall Fair Grounds/Multiplex area.
