In 2021 the Accessibility British Columbia Act (ABCA) was enacted to foster an inclusive environment and remove barriers for people with disabilities.
Requirements for Part 3 of the Act are:
- Establish an accessibility committee.
- Develop an accessibility plan by Sept. 1, 2023
- Create a feedback mechanism
The City of Port Alberni has partnered with the ACRD to create a joint regional Accessibility Committee. Advertisements seeking Committee Members will appear in the Newspaper (AV News & Westerly Dec 13 and Jan 3). *Update* the first meeting of the Accessibility Committee is March 5, 2024.
